Leidkultur

“Leidkultur” replaces “Leit” (guiding) with “Leid” (suffering) in the German political term “Leitkultur”, meaning a dominant or guiding culture.

In German political debate, “Leitkultur” is closely associated with conservative demands that a shared national culture should guide social life and integration.

Conversely, in parts of the political left, the very idea of a shared German national culture meets with strong rejection, as it is perceived as an expression of cultural hegemony and exclusion.
